The brewers at Samuel Adams released the much sought after Samuel Adams Utopias for a limited run for their Holiday Campaign. It was first released in 2002 but the limited run was only the ninth batch brewed since then. Only 10,000 bottles were released.
What makes this beer particularly exciting is that it's brewed using traditional methods. The beer is brewed in small batches and is blended with other vintages going back to 1992 and those beers are aged in barrels that once stored Cognac, Armagnac, port and bourbon.
The finishing touches take place at the Barrel Room at the Samuel Adams Boston Brewery.
At $199 a bottle, it isn't cheap but that's what adds to the appeal and what led to it featuring in Furtune's "Great Beer to give as Holiday Gifts." By providing a story to customers, releasing limited runs of it, is what makes their campaigns so successful. It's a beer any beer lover or cognac given the taste) would love to try so would definitely feature on many Christmas wish lists.
